Arena Rodeo Team Roping rules

Rope fair. Ride prepared. Respect the arena.

These are Arena Rodeo’s MVP venue rules for Team Roping. The published rules and conditions for a specific event, together with the event official’s decision, control that event.

Important: This placeholder rule page must be reviewed and approved by the venue and its insurer before public launch. It is not a substitute for a sanctioning body’s rulebook, waiver, or local legal requirements.

Entry, check-in, and conduct

  • Entries must be submitted by the published deadline and are subject to the event’s stated conditions.
  • Both team members must check in and be ready in draw order.
  • The event office may correct entry information, draw errors, or safety issues before a team runs.
  • Abusive, unsafe, dishonest, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in removal from the event.

Safety and animal welfare

  • Riders are responsible for sound horses, safe tack, and appropriate control at all times.
  • Follow arena crew instructions, posted speed limits, and restricted-area signs.
  • Humane treatment of livestock is required. The official may stop a run or remove a participant for an animal-welfare concern.
  • Minors must meet the event’s published consent and supervision requirements.

Team Roping run standards

  • The header must make a legal head catch as defined for the event.
  • The heeler must make a legal heel catch as defined for the event.
  • Crossfire, illegal catches, roping a leg as header, or other event-defined fouls result in the penalty or no-time stated for that event.
  • The field official determines whether a catch is legal and when a run is complete.

Time, penalties, and official decisions

  • The official time is the time recorded and confirmed by the event’s timing and field-official process.
  • Barrier penalties, leg penalties, no-times, reruns, and tie procedures follow the conditions published for the event.
  • Only the event office may correct a documented scoring or administrative error.
  • For safety, welfare, or fair competition, the event official’s decision is final.
